The Assassin's Creed Effect

You may be asking yourself this: What is the Assassin’s Creed effect? It’s rather simple and may soon be classified as an almost terminal disease, or I may just be exaggerating a tad. Having just finished Assassin’s Creed II and putting well over fifteen hours into the game; I find myself trying to play other games as if I were still Ezio; with his agility, his arsenal, and his ability to run up a wall as opposed to running into a wall.

The game I chose to return to after playing Assassin’s Creed II couldn’t be any different in terms of gameplay. Dragon Age: Origins is an RPG that plays like an MMO and relies heavily on pausing the game in order to give your characters specific instructions. Dragon Age happens to be a game where you can’t even jump, let alone climb up a giant building (though you can’t technically jump in Assassin’s Creed II either).

If you’ve played Dragon Age then you know how stupid it would look to try and free run in the game. I am running into trees, accidentally casting spells, and attempting to assassinate an orge while playing as a mage. It’s not pretty and it barely makes any sense, but that’s just what happens when you suffer from the Assassin’s Creed effect. I can only hope that you are able to avoid this very troubling illness.
