XBL Indies: Fishing Girl Review

Fishing Girl is quite the beautiful little game.

There may be a lot of garbage on the Xbox LIVE Indie Game marketplace, but games like Fishing Girl make up for every bad game I’ve suffered through over the past few months. The game is simple and a lot of fun, but the game’s best quality is its charm. Fishing Girl is a delight of a game that never ceased to put a smile on my face.

The object of Fishing Girl is to reunite girl with boy. They were separated as the world split apart, placing a lake between them. The only way to reunite these two souls is to cast your fishing rod across the lake and reel in the other side. There’s something beautifully charming about this idea and thankfully the game surrounding it happens to be great as well.

You won’t be able to cast your fishing rod very far in the beginning (obviously), but you’ll be able to slowly upgrade multiple aspects of your rod. The way you upgrade your rod is by collecting money from every fish that you reel in. The gameplay is very simple, but it’s also a lot of fun and one of the many things I love about this game. For those asking themselves, “What is there to do after beating the game once?” Fishing Girl features an in-game award system that will keep devoted gamers playing for hours.

Fishing Girl is a beautiful game, both artistically and from a simple design standpoint. This is the type of game that reminds me of how wonderful an independent game can be. It’s a steal at the price of a dollar and a game that no one should pass up. Don’t do me any favors, do yourself a favor and pick this game up right now.
